Polyurethane Coated Pipe Manufacturing Process & Quality Control

How Is Polyurethane Coated Pipe Manufactured?

The polyurethane coating process involves applying a high-performance polyurethane material onto the steel pipe surface. This results in a durable, corrosion-resistant, and thermally insulated layer. Below is a breakdown of the step-by-step Polyurethane Coated Pipe manufacturing process:

1. Surface Preparation

  • The steel pipe is cleaned using shot blasting or sandblasting to remove rust, scale, and contaminants.
  • The surface is roughened to ensure strong adhesion of the polyurethane coating.

2. Application of Polyurethane Coating

  • A liquid polyurethane material is applied using spray coating or dip coating techniques.
  • The coating is applied in multiple layers, depending on the required thickness and project specifications.
  • The polyurethane material hardens into a dense, protective layer, preventing corrosion and thermal loss.

3. Curing & Hardening

  • The coated pipes are cured in a controlled environment to ensure proper hardening and chemical bonding.
  • This step guarantees that the coating remains durable, flexible, and resistant to cracking.

4. Quality Control & Testing

  • Coating Thickness Measurement ensures the required thickness is achieved.
  • Adhesion Testing verifies the bond strength between the coating and steel surface.
  • Thermal Insulation Testing evaluates the coating’s performance in heat retention applications.
  • Corrosion Resistance Testing assesses long-term durability in harsh environments.

5. Final Inspection & Packaging

  • Pipes are visually inspected for uniformity, coating defects, and quality standards.
  • Each pipe is marked with batch numbers, coating specifications, and manufacturer details for full traceability.
  • Pipes are then bundled, packed, and prepared for shipping.
